Former Town Sub-Inspector Selected for Forest Award 

October 5, 2018 NAGAON: The Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Wildlife and Chief Wildlife Warden have selected former Town Sub-Inspector (TSI) Jibon P Marak along with another police personnel of the district for the ‘Forest Award’ for special contribution towards the cause of conservation of forest as well as wildlife.

In an official notification issued by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Wildlife, it was stated that along with six other persons of the State, the name of TSI Marak was nominated by the department for the award. Interestingly, TSI Marak was transferred from the post just a couple of days ago by the district police authority due to an alleged conspiracy by a senior police officer of Nagaon Police Reserve. Nagaon offer rousing felicitation to Hima Das

NAGAON, Sept 11,2018 - Braving inclement weather conditions thousands of people thronged the Khagen Mahanta auditorium here to show their solidarity to India’s new sprint sensation Hima Das.

The felicitation function, organised jointly by the Nagaon District Administration and Nagaon Sports Association (NSA), was scheduled to be held at the Nurul Amin Stadium, but due to incessant rain the meeting had to be shifted to the Khagen Mahanta auditorium. “I am not here to be felicitated, but I am here for seeking your love and blessings,” said Hima while speaking on the occasion. “I will stay for two days at home and after that will leave for my training place. I have to work hard in order to bring more laurels to the country and my beloved Assam. Now I have more responsibility, bless me for my good health and leave it on me for other results,” said Hima.

She urged the State Government to set up playgrounds in all the rural areas of the State so that the talents could be spotted. She also emphasised on standard coaching so that the young talents could be groomed for international standard.

Union Minister Rajen Gohain, while speaking on the occasion said that Hima has made Assam proud and he hoped she will bring more laurels to the State in coming days. State Minister Keshab Mahanta termed the ‘Dhing Express’ as a piece of gem. “Now her aim should be the Olympics and love of the people of Assam will inspire her,” Mahanta said. Welcoming the gathering, Nagaon DC Biswajit Pegu revealed that as per the instruction of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, a standard playground will be prepared at Hima’s birth place in Kandhulimari, near Dhing.

A host of eminent persons like local MLA Rupak Sarma, NSA secretary Pradip Hazarika, Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev, parents and relatives of Hima, her coaches and journalists were present on the occasion. Hima was also felicitated on behalf of DG NCC and ADG NER NCC by Col RB Patil, Officiating Group Commander, Tezpur Group and Col Vinay Malhotra, Commanding Officer, 8 Assam BN NCC. She was handed over a cheque of Rs 25,000 in recognition of her exceptional performance in the field of athletics.

At Dhing also several organisations offered a warm welcome to Hima who reached home after a couple of months.

Nagaon gets 8th position among 500 clean cities Correspondent

NAGAON, Feb 16,2018 - Minister of State (Independent charge) for Railways, Rajen Gohain, expressed satisfaction for getting the 8th position among 500 cities of the country in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He thanked the citizen of Nagaon, Nagaon district administration, employees and workers of Nagaon Municipal Board for their cooperation in this mission. The minister also appealed to the people to make Nagaon a garbage-free city. Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Shamsher Singh also thanked Nagaon citizens for achieving this position and expressed the hope that Nagaon will be top in the country. He also informed that polythene will be banned in Nagaon district. Bishnu Temple inaugurated: To inaugurate the Bishnu Temple and ‘Pran Pratisha of Bishnu Bighar’, a function was held at Geetashram, Hojai, from February 13 to 15. Attending the function as chief guest Swami Jatindranandagiri Moharaj observed that the Geeta is an exceptional book in the country. He added that some vested interested people are trying to create a chaotic atmosphere in the country but as a believer of non-violence, Indian people will stand against these crimes. Attending the function, RSS activist Suresh Sony explained the significance of the Geeta. Addressing the gathering as an honourable guest, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Hindu religion doesn’t spread hatred in the society. Sarma recalled the Chicago lecture of Swami Vivekananda which was praised by the people of all religions. He appealed to the MLAs to establish Geeta Sangha to help teach youths to read and learn the Geeta. Drama staged: Firingati, a drama produced by Nagaon Electronic Media Association, was staged at Khagen Mahanta Auditorium here recently. Well-known drama activist Sapunti Bordoloi highlighted the progress of Assamese drama from the days of Srimanta Sankaradeva. Nagaon MLA Rupok Sharma also spoke on the occasion. Temple to be opened for visitors: The Moha Mrityunjoy Temple will be opened for visitors from February 10, 2019. This was declared by Acharjya Bhrigugiri Moharaj at Narashingha Khetra recently. The 126-foot temple will be the tallest in the world and was constructed at a cost of Rs 12 crore with the contributions of devotees.

In order to acknowledge, recognise and reward the extraordinary, exemplary and innovative works done by the officers of the State Goverment, a scheme 'Karmashree', the Chief Minister's Award for Excellence in Public Administration has been instituted since 2017.

In the 2017 Awards Ceremony, the following were awarded:

1. Deputy commissioners of Cachar, Kokrajhar and Biswanath Chariali for excellence in e-governance initiative.
2. Finance, information technology and education departments of the State Government for excellence in e-governance initiative.
3. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Kamrup (metro), Guwahati Municipal Corporation and Deputy Commissioner's office of Jorhat district for best administration.
4. Deputy Commissioners of Sivasagar, Nagaon, Morigaon and Tinsukia for innovativeness.
5. The Agriculture Department of Goalpara district, District Administration of Kamrup (rural), Planning and Development Department of Assam, Social Welfare Department and Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar were also honoured for their contribution.
