Also known as the Chapnalla Falls, Champawati Kunda is a magnificent waterfall located at Chapnalla in the Nagaon District of Assam.

The waterfall and Tea Gardens around and birds and different species of breeds are lovely to watch. This place is 1hour (approx) from Nagaon Town. Weekly marketing (Bazaar) on Sunday is a tradition market with local products are point of attraction.The inhabitants are mostly assamese and Bengali peoples with some percentage of Christians and adivasi villagers around the tea gardens. Road condition is quite bad for small cars but good for HUV segment cars to reach at the site. People must arrange their food along with or can cook at site for fresh food.Perfect place for refreshment in weekends.

By Rail

There is no railway station near to Chapanala in less than 10 km. How ever Guwahati Rail Way Station is major railway station 129 KM near to Chapanala 

PLACES TO VISIT

  1. Kaliabor: This is a historic place about 48 kms. from Nagaon. It was the headquarters of the Barphukans during the Ahom days. The place witnessed many battles with the Muslim invaders.
  2. Agnigarh Temple: This temple is located in Tewzpur which is about 63 kms. from Nagaon. The temple facing the mighty Brahmaputra is a monument dedicated to Princess Usha daughter of King Bana. Princess Usha was kept inside a rampart surrounded by fire (Agnigarh).
  3. Da-Parbatia: This is a 4th century architectural site of a Hindu temple. It is mostly in ruins due to the vagaries of nature. It is situated in Tezpur.
  4. Mahabhairav Temple: Originally the temple was stated to have been built by King Bana and dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple has since been renovated. The temple is located in Tezpur.
  5. Laokhowa Wild Life Sanctuary: Situated about 25 kms. from Nagaon, it  has inhabitants like the One Horned Rhinocerous, Tiger, Leopard, Asiatic Buffalo, Wild Cat, Civet cat, Leopard Cat,  and Hog Deer. It has also various species of birds and reptiles.

ACTIVITIES

Champawati Kunda is a great picnic spot. The place is also near the Laokhowa Wild Life Sanctuary and will be of interest to wild life lovers, wild life photographers and enthusiasts.

BEST SEASON

The best season to visit the waterfall is from October to February. This will be the season post monsoon and the rivers and its tributaries will be filled and the waterfall is best viewed at its best.

GETTING THERE

Champawati Kunda is located on the side of the Highway that connects Tezpur-Nagaon and Dimapur. The nearest town is Kaliabor, 48 kms. east of Nagaon. The nearest airport is Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport at Borjhar. The nearest railway station is at Chaparmukh which is 28 kms. from Nagaon. The road is Nagaon is a well maintained highway. Buses and Taxies are available from Nagaon to the waterfall.

TRAVEL ADVISORY

  1. Since there are no eateries near the waterfalls, visitors are advised to carry food and water while visiting the waterfalls.
  2. Do not litter. The area around the waterfall should be kept clean.
  3. It is advisable to carry first aid kits, walking shoes and to wear light clothes
  4. Visitors are advised not to venture climbing those wet and slippery rocks
  5. Since it is a forest area, campfire is not allowed
  6. Do not feed animals or disturb them. Do not provoke the animals.
